At least, that’s what makes sense to us.
This holiday we have been here with some recipes, some style, some music – so we can’t stop when it comes to the decor. This year, we loved the trend of simplistic, natural designs with a few DYI touches. Which makes sense as we immediately gravitated toward the simplicity of craft paper-wrapped gifts and small touches of seasonal colors through accents like twine. To bring a more ‘homemade’ touch to our tree, we love adding in polaroid photos among the traditional ornaments to serve as a reminder of the people and times that got us here, even when we’re apart.
Also trending, a natural touch to holiday decor, specifically those incorporating pine cones and citrus as elements. Because, while wrapping presents is definitely a highlight, the holiday spirit seems at least partially tied to an appropriate amount of garland.
Feeling inspired, we thought it was worth taking a chance and trying out the trend ourselves.
Here, with a holiday how-to on orange garland.
First, you’ll need a few things.
- Oranges (amount will depend on desired length of garland)
- Knife
- Cutting Board
- Cookie Sheet
- Paper Towel
- Parchment Paper
- Twine (the merrier the better)
- Scissors
Now, for the fun part that will leave your home looking (and smelling) like the holidays are finally here.
How to make your garland:
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees
- Slice oranges thinly (about 1/8″ – 1/4″ thick)
- Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Pat oranges dry with a paper towel before putting onto the cookie sheet.
- Bake for 2.5 hours on one side…
- Flip oranges over, and let bake another 1.5 hours.
- Once slightly brown, remove from oven and let cool.
- When cool, use scissors to put two holes into the slices.
- Thread twine through slices, and hang!
