a Day That’s All About You

While the holidays are by far our favorite time of year, it’s very easy to focus on making everyone around you happy and lose sight of what you need. Between family and friend gatherings, travel, and a gift list that never seems to shrink but only grow, it’s easy for self-care to become buried under the to-do lists and recipe cards.

If you’re anything like us, your holiday season revolves around finding and giving the best present and time with family and friends – which sometimes leaves you feeling like you need a break. Which is perfectly fine! There is nothing wrong with taking a day or two to focus on yourself, you deserve it.

Spending time alone can be daunting, but it’s also filled with so much possibility. You are free to do whatever you please! If you need a little inspiration for how to spend a day alone, we’ve come prepared with ideas to take you from morning to dawn that you can adjust and make your own.

Personally, we like to start our ‘me time’ day by waking up early. Now, we’re sure you’re thinking “that’s crazy,” but that’s the beauty of a day spent alone. You have the freedom to wake up whenever you want, no matter how early or late.

Once you’re up and ready to take on the day simply get out of the house! Go to the farmers market, take a walk, go shopping for you instead of someone on your list, or go to that brunch spot you’ve been wanting to try for months.

As time goes by you’ll probably start to get a little hungry – which is the perfect time to bake something out of the ordinary. Try your hand at my favorite banana bread recipe or this classic cherry pie that you won’t be able to get enough of.

Once you’re done baking, kick off your shoes and take a seat on the couch. We like to spend the rest of our night doing a few different things; reading, writing and watching. Take this time to read that book you’ve had for months, maybe years, that you never have time to pick up. Or you could write a little in a bullet journal, maybe even design a page dedicated to your Christmas wish list that looks straight from Instagram! If reading and writing don’t suit you, finally watch that show or movie that’s been on your watchlist.

Once it’s time to call it a day and head to bed don’t forget about the most important part of your ‘me time’ regimen – REPEAT. Don’t let this be the only day you take for yourself, do it all again whenever feels right to you.
