You may know Tentree for their commitment to reforestation.
They plant 10 trees for every item purchased, and have already planted more than 29 million trees!
But their commitment to sustainability extends beyond that. In fact, it’s woven into everything they do. Tentree takes pride in using high quality, ethically-sourced materials in their clothing, with every item being made from a blend of sustainable fabrics.
They truly believe that what you wear matters – and so do we – with over 922,000 trees alone being planted from the Tentree clothing sold at Buckle.
So what makes these fabrics sustainable? We’re glad you asked.
Tentree’s Sustainable &
Eco-Friendly Fabrics

A lot of care and consideration goes into the fabrics and materials that make up Tentree’s clothing. With a mix of fabrics like TENCELâ„¢ Lyocell, organic cotton, recycled polyester, or hemp in every garment.
TENCELâ„¢ Lyocell
TENCELâ„¢ Lyocell is a fiber made from eucalyptus trees. These fast growing trees require no pesticides or insecticides, and only 1/5th of the land that it takes to make traditional fabrics. What’s more is that TENCELâ„¢ Lyocell manufacturing is fueled by 100% renewable energy and uses 80% less water than conventional fibers.

Organic Cotton
All of the cotton used in Tentree’s clothing is made from certified organic cotton – meaning that it’s grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Conventional cotton uses more insecticides than any other major crop, and research has shown that this can cause many adverse effects on our soil, water, and air. Tentree’s commitment to using organic cotton has reduced the use of chemicals, which helps alleviate negative impacts on the environment.
Recycled Polyester
Tentree’s recycled polyester is made from recycled plastic bottles or virgin polyester manufacturing waste that is turned into useable polyester. The use of recycled polyester is dramatically better for the environment, with estimates as high as a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Hemp
Hemp is one of the most sustainable natural fibers on the planet. It’s breathable, durable, and eco-friendly. Grown without the use of any pesticides or herbicides, hemp blends are some of the softest pieces you will ever own. The fibers are incredibly strong, naturally anti-microbial, and UV resistance. Perfect for a hike up the mountain or relaxing by the campfire.

Coconut Shell Buttons
The buttons on Tentree’s button-up shirts, henleys, and pants are made from coconut shells. These buttons are a durable and sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastic buttons.

Cork
Cork is used instead of leather on Tentree’s patches, drawstring tabs, and zipper pulls. Cork is harvested by stripping the bark from sustainably grown cork trees. Bark striping promotes growth and increases the tree’s lifespan.

Remember, you can reforest the earth with what you wear. You can feel good about what you’re wearing because of how it’s made and what it’s made with!

Protect the world you play in.
