We all know about the comforts of being at home – especially during the holidays.
But for people dealing with cancer, getting the best care sometimes means traveling away from home to receive the most effective treatments.
And when the comforts of home become out of reach, and the cost of travel, hotel stays, and medical bills start to add up. That added burden – both financial and emotionally in an already challenging time – can really take a toll on someone’s well-being.
Thanks to American Cancer Society and many generous donors, Hope Lodges have been taking some of that weight off the shoulders of those fighting cancer.
Hope Lodges are a free place to stay when treatments are far away. When cancer patients are not having to worry about where to stay and how to pay, they can focus solely on their health and getting well.
So being in the spirit of giving, our teammates wanted to do their part in giving hope and comfort to those battling cancer.
Just in time for the holidays, American Cancer Society sent us their “wish list”…
And together, our store managers and corporate teammates collected donations to stock up one of American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodges with some of the comforts of home.
Buckle Teammates delivered with baskets full of donations – literally.
Over 3,900 items to be exact!
Our teammates donated items like toilet paper, personal toiletries, and kitchen and cleaning supplies.
These items may seem like a small gesture, but it’s the little things like this that become the big things, and that can really help make someone’s stay at Hope Lodge that much easier and that much more enjoyable.
The collected donations will go to Jackson, Mississippi, to American Cancer Society’s newest Hope Lodge, which expects to welcome their first guests in late January 2019.

The future American Cancer Society Gertrude C. Ford Hope Lodge in Jackson, Mississippi.
This Hope Lodge will join the other 32 Hope Lodge locations across the United States and in Puerto Rico, that provide 450,000 free nights of lodging to cancer patients and their caregivers each year – saving families over $45 million in hotel expenses.
In addition to these Hope Lodges, American Cancer Society has future locations planned or under construction in four more cities.
There may not be a Hope Lodge in every state, but guests have still come from all 50 states and over 45 other countries.
While staying at Hope Lodge, guests also gain priceless peer support and social interactions, comfort from a nurturing home-like environment and a community of support from others going through the same thing. As well as, benefit from the health and wellness programs made available to them.
