“Philosoph”, wordsmith, aspiring Indiana Jones (his words, not ours), Blake’s list of interests are well, everywhere. Sitting down with him for a cup of coffee (or tea), you’ll probably talk about anything from 1980’s Lakers basketball to 19th century German history.
And it’s good stuff. If you’re needing some solid recommendations for documentaries and new music finds, read on friends.
You speak German. Impress us…
Ehrlicherweise, spreche ich nur ein bisschen Deutsch. Ich kann genug Deutsch um in Berlin zu Recht zu kommen, und ein Bier zu bestellen.
“Honestly, I only speak a little German. I can speak enough German to get along just fine in Berlin, and order a beer.”
I’m simple. Slim fit jeans. Simple.
I’m old fashion in my belief that the sacred bond between the holy trinity of shoes, belts, and watchstraps should never be tainted by mixing the color of their leathers. AKA if you’re wearing brown shoes, its best to wear a brown belt. Keep it classy.
What’s on your playlist right now?
Oh, that’s always changing. I’m all over the place with music. Currently I’m vibing on Love is Alive by Louis the Child (GO CHECK IT OUT). Vince Staples, Flume, What So Not, The Oh Hellos, and Mumford and Sons are staples of my playlist though.
Latest documentary recommendation?
Easy. “The Best of Enemies.” It shows the brutal and strange division within U.S politics and society in 1968, embodied in the debates of Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley Jr. It’s wild. You have Netflix, just go watch it.
Recent books you’ve been reading? Any other suggestions?
I’m currently working on Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail ’72 by Hunter S. Thompson. Start it, you won’t put it down. Too many recommendations…Creation and Burr by Gore Vidal. Anything by Thompson is a great read. I just finished A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn…easily in my top 5.
What are you looking forward to this year?
GRADUATION. Learning, loving, and hopefully some surprises along the way.
