Meet Bobbi. She’s a stylist here at Buckle, and she recently went through a rather traumatic experience that we all can relate to. Valentine’s Day has recently passed, so we thought it might be time for some healthy heartbreak.
We have all been there – looking at our closet, bursting with clothes but feeling as if there is nothing to wear. Every closet needs some routine maintenance, and from time-to-time, you have to say goodbye. I’m here to help you walk through this heart-wrenching process. Being a fashion lover, I build quite the collection of shirts and have a hard time breaking up with any of them, so I put together a useful list of questions to ask yourself to determine if a certain top really is “the one” or if it’s time to move on to better things.
6 Questions to Ask Yourself:
- Are you tired of it? Is it something you will ever wear again?
If you are just “over it,” move it to the back of your closet, and give it a rest for a while. But, if you find yourself wondering if you would ever wear it again, it’s time to say goodbye!
- Does it fit? Honestly, does it?
Some of us hang on to a piece that doesn’t even fit in hopes that someday it will. Not to burst your bubble, but the truth of the matter is that it’s time to let go and find something that fits. A shirt that fits will be more flattering, more comfortable, and more wearable.
- Is the silhouette out of date?
Maybe you love the color, print, or details that a shirt has, but the silhouette is looking a bit dated. Think to yourself, “If you layer it with newer pieces would you like it then?” If the answer is no, it might be time to cut ties.
- How’s the quality?
Holes, stains, white shirts that aren’t so white – we love destructed denim, but a shirt that has been around the block is not so appealing. It’s been real. It’s been fun. But now, we’re done!
- Can you think of at least 2 to 3 different ways to style it?
You might find yourself getting tired of the same “go-to” outfit. Don’t be afraid to find two or three “go-tos.” If you only have one go-to outfit, you most likely are going to get tired of it sooner than later! Pack it up and replace it with something more versatile.
- Have you worn it this year?
This is a golden rule when debating to split ways with a top. If you haven’t managed to wear it in the last 365 times you got dressed, then you probably won’t in the next 365 days. If you aren’t ready to say goodbye, challenge yourself to wear it in the next week.
