New Year’s Resolutions and Visualization: Meet Ashley

We get that it might be a tad bit early to be talking about New Year’s resolutions, but we want to get real for a minute and talk goals. No, we aren’t talking about laying in bed all day, eating pizza with our favorite reruns on repeat (although we aren’t entirely opposed). We’re talking actual goals that we can start working toward NOW.

Like how our girl Ashley has been throwing some major motivation our way, dedicating last year to bettering her health and fitness. And to be entirely honest, we’re wanting a little bit of what she’s got. That’s why we decided to talk about new year’s resolutions, a tad bit earlier than usual. Meet Ashley.

Do you believe in New Year’s resolutions?

Yes, kind of. If you are really motivated and have someone hold you accountable, I believe you can stick to them.

Have you stuck to any?

I try, I don’t always succeed. I make broad resolutions so they are easier to stick to. This year some of mine were to get in better shape and see my friends more, but my resolution to spend less time on social media didn’t work out so well.

When did you decide to make health and fitness one of your top priorities?

It was within the last few years. I never played sports in high school and never cared to work out. But I had a lifesaving kidney transplant when I was 19, and I realized that I didn’t want to waste my second chance at life. It could have been easy to be lazy and take the easy way out, but being active helps add to the overall quality of my life. I like proving to myself that I can do things I never thought I’d be able to do.

What are your goals for 2017?

  • Run an 8 minute mile
  • Run a half marathon
  • Eat healthier and cook more
  • Learn to relax, HA!

 Favorite workout?

I love running outside on the local trails and discovering new routes. And any kind of leg exercise.

Best advice to those needing a change for the New Year?

Try something you’ve never done before! Get your friends involved. Buy new workout gear! I attended yoga in the park with friends and went rock wall climbing for the first time this year. Don’t be afraid to do something out of your comfort zone.

Do you have any gym style hacks/tips?

Comfort is key. Wear whatever is comfortable and whatever you’re confident in. And for girls with short hair like me, bobby pins. Lots and lots of bobby pins.

How do you stay motivated throughout the year?

I just want to keep improving. I want to get better than I was yesterday. Seeing the progress in the mirror helps keep me going.
